I once had a student who was mean as a snake, and, at fifteen, a career criminal. Nonetheless, he wrote in an essay: "Love is when two people have an uncontrolable joy for each other."

That is not fabulous construction, but it is a fabulous idea. Seems to me that the idea works even if the two are not people.

I have always remembered that, and thought it a clear vision of the purest type of love.
